Learning to Think

One of the most important lessons American boarding schools can teach us is not just the facts and figures that make up a great education, but also the ability to think through issues and problem solve. Learning to think is the key to not only mastering education at the high school level, but also is crucial for scoring well on important college entrance exams such as the MCAT or SATs. The ability to think through scenarios can also make a tremendous difference in courses such as an LSAT prep.

The Lesson That Lasts a Lifetime

For most students and adults, the most lasting lessons of childhood are not the ones geared toward rote memorization or repetition, but rather scenario based lessons that call upon many different aspects of learning. Synthesizing, or using information and skills together, is what makes a high-quality education differ from a standard one.

Anyone call fill out worksheets or read a text book, but when a student must to apply the knowledge learned in many classes to a single project, real higher level thinking is taking place.

That same higher level thinking is what American boarding school students successful at the university level. What begins as excellent lessons at a boarding school can turn into excellent test results, which in turn yield to an excellent future. Learning to think is the most important lesson of all.
